Ooyala (Client: Fox Sports)
Overview
When Ooyala were rethinking the look and feel and experience of their entire product suite working as the Head of Product Design and Lead Designer, I was responsible for reimagining this. I created a product design transformation strategy for their next generation platform. It included creating a design system and extending their brand to create character and personality.
Full project scope:
- Hands-on product design, UX and UI design including design system creation, documentation and management.
- UX included UX research, user journey mapping, wireframing, prototyping and running workshops. This also included process creation and review.
- Product design roadmap feature suggestion.
- Global rollout experience consultation and guidance.
- UX review and analysis.
- UX research and consultant with global clients including Fox Sports Australia and CBC.
- Brand and identity extension, including meetings with key teams to update on progress and discuss any challenges.
Problem I was solving
Many clients were using various products within the Ooyala suite, none of the commonalities were mapped and the experiences were not consistent. There was also no single sign-on.
The development team were not using a design system and components to build new features. This caused many challenges including:
- An inconsistent experience for users across all Ooyala products essentially there were many different ways to complete the same task across all the products.
- Technical debt as well as design debt when new designs were rolled out and a clunky approach to feature rollout.
Results
With the product design strategy that I devised we were able to create a unified platform with a range of applications that plugged into a global framework. This mean that users could sign-on once to access the entire product suite.
Actions across this new framework were made consistent regardless of the application that the user was using.
This product transformation won Best Of Show at IBC 2022.
